Islamic Studies Scholarships

What It Is

The Mahmoud S Taman Foundation grants small scholarships in the form of micro-grants of $1,000 or less to undergraduate and graduate students from North America who are pursuing an Islamic Studies as a major or minor degree program at an accredited university or college based in North America.

Purpose

To encourage and provide assistance to students pursuing Islamic studies with the intention of serving as Islamic educators, scholars, leaders, religious practitioners, chaplains, or guidance counselors and who are committed to leadership and Islam. The Foundation's intent is to support a new, young generation of Islamic scholars who will provide progressive responses in the teaching and outreach of Islam.

Eligibility

  1. North American based Undergraduate or Graduate Students at an accredited higher education institution that is also based within North America

  2. Attending college in the current academic year at an accredited North American institution at the graduate or undergraduate level

  3. Majoring or Minoring in Islamic Studies or a related degree such as Islamic History.

  4. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  5. Demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, religious service, extracurricular or other activities.

How to Apply

Complete the short form below and upload the following documents:

  1. A short personal statement explaining your goals and why you merit the scholarship

  2. Two letters of recommendation; one from a professor and one from a religious leader

  3. Academic transcripts including your GPA (unofficial)

  4. Your resume

  5. Any material you wish to submit such as articles, videos, publications
